Liverpool and Chelsea are set to battle it out for the signature of Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato, according to reports.

Having left AC Milan to return to the Brazilian league with Corinthians, a two-season loan move to Sao Paulo has seen the 26-year-old return to goalscoring form after a difficult phase of his career after falling out of favour at the San Siro.

Having confirmed his intentions to return to European football, Pato has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp attempts to bolster his faltering attack at Anfield but the Independent now claim Chelsea will attempt to sign the £11million man.

"I don’t think the physical part of English football would be a problem. When you get the ball, you need to be ready. The defenders here are very tough but I like that. I have spoken to Willian, Firmino, Coutinho and David Luiz before," Pato said.

"One day I knew I would like to come to England because I think the championship is the number one in the world. It is very competitive."
