Mohamed Salah has been voted Liverpool's Standard Chartered Men's Player of the Month for March.

The Egyptian claimed the prize for his displays in a month that saw him become the club's all-time leading Premier League goalscorer.

He edged out teammates Cody Gakpo and Alisson Becker in our fan poll on Liverpoolfc.com, and upon collecting the award at the AXA Training Centre said: "Thank you, it's nice to win it and I'm happy to win it again.

"The next game is the most important [thing] for us at the moment, so hopefully we can get a good result.

"I think the favourite game in March for everyone was [the 7-0 win over Manchester] United, so I will pick United. Good result, good game, Anfield – so all together it was good."

Salah began March with a goal that sealed a 2-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield.

He followed that up by making history when he netted twice in the unforgettable defeat of United, taking his overall Reds tally in the league to 129 and beating Robbie Fowler's previous club record in the process.

"It feels really good, to be fair – one of the best moments for me in football," he reflected on the achievement. "I enjoyed it so much and I was so happy to break the record. It was a really lovely day and I was so happy about the record."

Liverpool's focus is now firmly on Monday's Premier League trip to Leeds United as they aim to build on last weekend's fightback in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

On using that performance as a catalyst, Salah added: "Yeah, hopefully. Top of the table, we played a good game against them, they are a really good team. But I think we dominated the game, especially in the second half; we were unlucky with some chances.

"So, hopefully that will give us a push for the next games."
