How Mo Salah's goal and assist record leads the way in Europe
Mohamed Salah’s scintillating form in 2021-22 so far is such that no player across Europe’s top five leagues can better his combined tally of goals and assists.
Liverpool’s No.11 has netted 10 times in his 11 Premier League appearances this season and also provided seven assists for his teammates.
That overall figure for goal contributions has Salah way out in front in the English top flight, with West Ham United’s Michail Antonio next best on nine (six goals, three assists) and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy third (seven goals, one assist).
His level of output was recognised last week when the Egypt international won four awards in the space of two days, being named October Player of the Month by the Premier League and PFA, as well as clinching Goal of the Month for the club and league with his stunning solo effort versus Manchester City.
The excellence of Salah’s exploits is underlined if you widen the statistical scope out to the five top-ranked leagues in European football – England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain – as his numbers sit him at the summit again.
Only Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who boasts an identical record for games, goals and assists in La Liga this campaign, can rival the Liverpool man’s totals in the Premier League.
Opta data also reveals his deeper influence on the attacking productivity of Jürgen Klopp’s side, who are the most prolific in the division with 31 goals.
Nobody in those same five leagues can match Salah’s totals for involvements in shot-ending sequences (85) and the 29-year-old has featured in 20 goal-ending sequences – two-thirds of the overall Reds tally.
