Xherdan Shaqiri was pleased to make another telling contribution to a Liverpool victory with his goal against Newcastle United.

The Switzerland international netted his sixth strike for the club on Boxing Day, meaning only Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have scored more for the Reds so far this season.

Shaqiri and co eventually eased to a 4-0 win that increased their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points with half of the campaign completed.

After the game at Anfield, the No.23 reiterated his commitment to putting the objectives of the team above taking any satisfaction from personal figures.

“You can see on the pitch, my understanding with my teammates is very good,” Shaqiri, who made his 10th start for Liverpool, told BBC Sport.

“It’s always good to score goals or give assists. I’m helping the team to win games and that’s the most important thing.”
