There was something remarkably familiar about the manner in which Roberto Firmino scored against Manchester City on Sunday – but just how similar was his goal to a famous effort netted by Robbie Fowler at Old Trafford two decades ago?

The Brazilian outmuscled John Stones to reach Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pass forward before majestically scooping the ball over Ederson to put the Reds 2-1 up.

Back in 1995, Fowler found the target with an incredibly similar strike against Manchester United.

On that occasion, the Liverpool forward shouldered Gary Neville off the ball to meet Michael Thomas’s pass before deftly lifting over Peter Schmeichel.
