Jürgen Klopp is awaiting news on the extent of the injury sustained by Lucas Leiva on Wednesday.

Lucas pulled up with an apparent hamstring problem after an hour of Liverpool’s 2-0 friendly victory over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Brazilian, who was replaced by U18s goalkeeper Shamal George as Klopp had already used all six of his outfield substitutes, travelled to the USA with the rest of the Reds’ squad immediately after the game.

However, whether Lucas will be available for the upcoming International Champions Cup matches against Chelsea and AC Milan remains to be seen, with Klopp unsure how serious the problem is.

When asked if he knew anything more about Liverpool’s No.21’s fitness, the boss told Liverpoolfc.com: “No not exactly, but of course it’s muscle so we have to wait.

“But things like this happen - that’s how it is. It’s always unlucky and never in the right moment, but we have to wait for the exact assessment.”
