LFC to virtually support Safer Internet Day 2021
Liverpool Football Club will support Safer Internet Day next week by holding a joint live virtual event with the UK Safer Internet Centre for schoolchildren across the country.
‘Safer Internet Day Live with Liverpool Football Club’ will take place on Tuesday February 9 and will be streamed live from 1.30pm on the UK Safer Internet Centre’s YouTube account.
The free virtual event, which is aimed at schoolchildren in years five and six, aged nine to 11 years old, will explore this year’s Safer Internet Day theme – an internet we trust: exploring reliability in the online world.
A mix of educational sessions delivered by teachers, and live interaction, will focus on how young people can decide what to trust and what to question online to enable them to challenge and change the online world for the better.
There will also be a range of special LFC guest appearances from the club’s men’s, women’s and academy players, CEO Billy Hogan, and Reds legend Jamie Carragher, to name a few.
All participants will also have the chance to win some LFC-themed goody bags and experience a virtual tour of Anfield, home of the Reds, with the club’s official mascot, Mighty Red.
Forbes Duff, senior manager, CSR at Liverpool FC, said: “We are proud to now be in our sixth year of support for Safer Internet Day, which provides an important platform for us to connect with young people on online safety.
“Now more than ever, with most young people spending large amounts of time online at home for learning and recreation, it’s important to highlight the many benefits and risks of the internet, as well as promoting how to stay safe and happy online.
“For the past five years we have hosted a Safer Internet Day event at Anfield Stadium, welcoming over 800 local schoolchildren, but that’s just not possible this year due to the ongoing pandemic. As this year’s event is virtual, both LFC and UKSIC are welcoming schoolchildren from across the UK to join so we can engage with even more young people.”
