Liverpool FC's official mascot, Mighty Red, has rewarded 100 young fans who have excelled during the past 12 months with a special recognition award.

The Golden Mighty Award is aimed at junior supporters, aged five to 11, who have made a difference to their community or showed positivity and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

One hundred limited-edition gold badges – which come in an official presentation box with an authenticity certificate – were sent out to young Reds in four nomination phases. The initial category focused on the children of key workers, and was followed by junior LFC Members, children within the local Liverpool community, and finally young fans around the world.

Winners also receive free entry to the club’s Stadium Tour and Museum experience, a free Mighty Red mocktail and 20 per cent off food at the Boot Room Sports Cafe, a free 12-month LFCTV GO subscription, and an LFC home shirt.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – who helped Mighty Red open the initial round of nominations in June 2020 – said: “The last year has been extremely difficult for everyone and we wanted to reward our young fans who have seen their lives changed dramatically due to COVID-19.

“Children have had to make incredible sacrifices throughout the pandemic, and we want to let them know that we appreciate their resilience and positivity despite the huge disruption to normal life.”

Throughout 2020, Mighty Red was on hand to support young Reds with a range of activities and events to help keep them entertained and engaged during challenging times.

As well as supporting home-schooling by providing fun and educational material, Mighty ran competitions to win personalised messages from players and exclusive prizes, including the Mighty Red champions medal in celebration of the Reds’ Premier League title triumph.

Mighty also held virtual sessions, where Mighty Red Members could take part in player press conferences and LFC Foundation’s virtual Halloween party, as well as meeting young families on LFC Stadium Tours, and making an appearance at the club’s young fans’ virtual Christmas party.
