Liverpool FC's official mascot, Mighty Red, surprised a group of youngsters at Anfield recently in recognition of their achievements in the local community.

Seven children were invited on a special Mighty Stadium Tour last month and were given private access to areas such as pitchside, the dugout, tunnel and players' dressing room, where an extra special surprise awaited.

In place of the first-team’s jerseys, the youngsters found their own kit – complete with their names printed on the reverse – hanging on the walls, before Mighty himself arrived to invite them to join him as junior player buddies for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The children were nominated by LFC Foundation and Red Neighbours as a reward for their commitment to their local communities.

The group includes children such as 11-year old Ruby, who dedicates her own free time to help at her school’s sports club, and 10-year-olds Nate and Isaac, who regularly volunteer at their local foodbank.
