As part of #iwillweek, LFC Foundation is shining a light on local young people who have used the programme to make a real difference in their local community.

#iwillweek ran from November 16, 2020 and LFC Foundation is continuing to celebrate the #PowerOfYouth, with young people raising their voices and taking action in their communities and helping to build a better future.

11-year-old Lucia joined the #iwill project in 2019, when her class at Whitefield Primary pledged to tackle knife crime and encourage others in their school to take up social action.

Since participating in the LFC Foundation's #iwill campaign, Lucia has become very passionate about social action and making a positive difference in her local community - she took a leading role within the LFC Foundation #iwill classroom activities and went on to create a number of her own social action projects outside of school, with a focus on reducing pollution, increasing drug and alcohol awareness and social isolation amongst the elderly.

Lucia’s dedication to helping others and making a difference in her local area led to her being elected onto her school council, before she was then nominated by the deputy head at her school and elected to take up the role of Young Mayor of Liverpool.

Speaking about how the #iwill programme has helped her boost her confidence, Lucia said: "Taking part in the #iwill campaign has been really valuable as it’s helped me to know that everyone has a voice, even children and the elderly.

“It’s very, very important for young people to have a voice because young people have a different perspective on things, and finding a new perspective helps to find different and new ideas."

The LFC Foundation’s #iwill programme is a 12-week youth led programme designed to empower children and young people to identify, prioritise and tackle issues within their communities. The #iwill programme gradually empowers young people to tackle societal issues or support good causes by methodologies including campaigning for change, volunteering, peer educating, peer mentoring or via fundraising for charity.

Social action is at the heart of the LFC Foundation and is embedded across all LFC Foundation programmes, with work continuing year-round.

I WILL, WILL YOU?
