Locals from across the community were invited to get into the Christmas spirit this week at the club’s annual carol service at Anfield.

The service, organised by the club’s Red Neighbours team, has been described as one of the highlights of the year – offering guests the chance to sing out the Christmas carols, enjoy a chat with friends and the chance to make new ones over seasonal mulled wine and mince pies offered by the LFC staff.

Bill Bygroves, club chaplain, hosted the service consisting of communal carol singing – with the choir from Notre Dame Catholic College stealing the show with their rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone to conclude the day’s service.

Bible readings were also heard, reminding those in attendance of the true meaning of Christmas time.

Forbes Duff, senior corporate social responsibility manager at LFC, said: "The annual carol service is an essential event on our calendar.

"It's brilliant that we can unite friends and family for the day – but also brings those who are alone this Christmas together too.

"The turnout was incredible this year, and I’d like to thank everybody who came along."

Over 500 people attended Anfield to enjoy the service this year, including Hillsborough Family Support Group chair Margaret Aspinall and LFC Legend, Alan Kennedy.

Margaret said: "This service is the highlight of the year to me - what a brilliant job done by everyone.

"What I like about it more than anything is that there are different types of people and cultures here today – I love the way Bill involves everybody, making everyone feel special.”

The Carol service is one of many activities that has taken place throughout the festive period and beyond as part of the programme’s bid to unite the local community within the Anfield region.
