Red Neighbours and a group of Liverpool FC employee volunteers paid a special visit to the Royal Liverpool Hospital on Thursday.

Aiming to lift spirits in and around the wards, Reds staff called in to various areas of the hospital to hand out player signature cards and encourage patients and their families to take part in a sing-a-long.

Patients and hospital staff were also given the chance to have their photo taken with the Champions League trophy.

LFC chaplain and Red Neighbours team member Bill Bygroves said: “Having the opportunity to visit so many different patients and offer them the chance to hold the European Cup is brilliant.

“We wouldn’t be able to make these visits without the amazing volunteers who do a great job in meeting the patients and leading the sing-a-long.

“Seeing the smiles on the patients’ faces is what it’s all about.”

Approximately 70 per cent of the patients accessing the Royal Liverpool Hospital are from Red Neighbours’ main area of focus, north Liverpool.

The programme aims to make a difference to those who live in and around Anfield through four key areas of need: food poverty and education, support for the elderly community, creating memorable experiences for young people, and encouraging a physically active community.
