A group of ladies from Red Neighbours' weekly programme attended the Walking Netball Festival at the Manchester Velodrome last week.

The team played five matches across the day, winning one, but managing to score in every game. The ladies enjoyed socialising with all the other players and meeting new people who have a shared love for the walking format of the game.

The festival was organised by England Netball and was aimed at celebrating walking netball and encouraging participation. The tournament saw teams from all over the north west come together for full day of competition.

Karen McVeigh, England Netball coach to the Red Neighbours team said: “The ladies did absolutely fab at the tournament, it was their first tournament, and they all enjoyed it so much”.

“They made lots of new friends, scored in every game, and even got a photo with Sir Chris Hoy. It was a great day out for them all!”

Walking Netball takes place every Friday between 11.30am to 12.30pm at Anfield Sports and Community Centre. New players are always welcome, and the netball is followed by a cup of tea and a chat in the cafe.

Walking Netball supports two of the key areas of focus for Red Neighbours: engaging with the elderly community and encouraging a physically active community.
