Jason McAteer spoke of his excitement to see Liverpool take on Olympique Lyonnais in a pre-season friendly this month, at a press event held at the Stade de Geneve.

The match, which will take place on Wednesday July 31, is the last stop on the Reds’ summer tour and will conclude the European champions’ pre-season preparations ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

McAteer, the former Liverpool star, said: “We are really looking forward to the game; it’s a great venue in such a beautiful city, the pitch and the stadium look fantastic and should produce a great atmosphere.

“Olympique Lyonnais should pose a tough test with some great players such as Depay, Dembele and Rafael hopefully on show. We want to encourage as many fans as possible to come and watch the team.”

Aline Cortat Champion, a representative of the official Liverpool FC supporters club Lausanne, said: “OLSC Lausanne are extremely proud to welcome Liverpool FC – 2019 European champions – to Geneva.

“The club is extremely close to our hearts and this game will provide the opportunity for our 300-plus branch members to come together in our region and watch a prestigious game before the season 2019-20 starts.

“For some of us, it will be the first time we have seen Liverpool FC play live and we can’t wait for the team to visit Geneva!”
