Liverpool FC Legends will take on their Borussia Dortmund counterparts in a friendly game this weekend as part of the German club's season-opening event.

Former Reds stars including Luis Garcia, Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush and Patrik Berger will line up against a newly-formed BVB Legends squad at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Saturday.

In the showpiece of the club’s 2018-19 season launch - which will see a whole day of family activities take place around the stadium - BVB Legends will play their inaugural game, having extended a special invitation to their Liverpool counterparts to join them for the occasion.

The two clubs share a bond not only through Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, who led the Bundesliga side for seven years before his switch to the Reds, but also through the anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Rush, the LFC Legends’ player/manager, said: “We’re honoured to be invited to face the Dortmund Legends in their first official game and it’s great to be part of such a brilliant family occasion.

“We always enjoy getting the lads together for these games and having the opportunity to get back out on the pitch.”

After the match, BVB will officially unveil their 2018-19 first-team playing squad and coaching staff to the crowd for the first time.

The entire event is free of charge and fans can collect tickets directly from the stadium on the day - there will be no advanced sale. Liverpool supporters are asked to use the north middle entrance and will be seated in sections 08 and 09. Turnstiles will open at 4pm.

Activities begin at 12pm and include a family feast, appearances from various BVB departments and sponsors, and live music acts. Kick-off will follow at 6pm (local time).
