LFC FoundationYoung Reds shine at Premier League Kicks Cup National Finals
More than 380 young people from across England and Wales came together at St George’s Park for the Premier League Kicks Cup national finals, with two LFC Foundation teams representing the club in the U16 Mixed and U16 Girls competitions.
Our U16 mixed team enjoyed an outstanding tournament, reaching the national final and recording the best-ever finish by an LFC Foundation side in the competition.
The Reds made a perfect start, winning all of their group-stage fixtures to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
Their resilience was put to the test in the quarter-final against Wycombe Wanderers when they fell 1-0 behind. The team responded superbly, scoring three times to complete a 3-1 comeback victory and book their place in the semi-final.
Another impressive performance followed against Derby County, with victory sending them into the national final and capping a memorable run through the competition.
Southend United proved too strong in the final, securing a 3-0 victory to lift the trophy. Despite the defeat, reaching the final marked a fantastic achievement for the players and staff and provided an experience to remember for everyone involved.
The U16 girls also earned the opportunity to represent the club on the national stage after receiving the Fair Play Award at the regional heats, recognising their attitude, respect and values they demonstrated throughout the competition.
At St George’s Park, the team faced a challenging start to the tournament, with results not going their way in the morning fixtures. Despite this, they maintained their determination and positive attitude.
Their efforts were rewarded in the afternoon, as strong performances began to turn into results. Two victories and a draw followed, rounding off a positive tournament and a memorable experience for the team.
It was a proud day for both LFC Foundation teams, who represented the club brilliantly on and off the pitch throughout the national finals.
