LegendsLFC Foundation’s Kirkland and Wright added to Legends fold
LFC Foundation’s Community Ambassador Chris Kirkland and former Liverpool FC defender, turned LFC Foundation Player Development Programme coach, Stephen Wright are the latest duo to commit to this year's Liverpool FC Legends charity match.
The Reds' Legends squad take on Borussia Dortmund Legends at Anfield on Saturday March 28, kicking off at 3pm GMT and talented defender Wright joins the playing squad, whilst Kirkland joins the squad as a first team coach.
Wright worked his way through the ranks at Anfield and made his Liverpool debut in the 8-0 League Cup win against Stoke City in November 2000.
He made his Premier League debut as a substitute in a 3-0 win over West Ham United at Anfield in February 2001 and he famously scored his first goal in front of the Kop in a 2-0 Champions League win over Legends charity match opponents, Borussia Dortmund.
He moved to Sunderland in August 2002 and following retirement now inspires the next generation of stars as a Player Development Programme coach for the LFC Foundation.
LFC Foundation’s Community Ambassador Chris Kirkland signed for Liverpool in 2001 and was recognised by many football pundits as one of the best young goalkeepers to emerge in England for a while, but he suffered terrible misfortune with injury.
Kirkland was part of the team that produced a fantastic comeback in the Champions League when Liverpool beat Olympiacos 3-1 at Anfield in December 2004.
He left Liverpool in 2006 for Wigan Athletic and went on to win his first England cap.
Kirkland is now the LFC Foundation’s Community Ambassador, inspiring participants across the Foundation’s three key areas of Health, Learning and Employability programmes.
As always, all of the proceeds from this years Legends fixture - supported by AXA and held in association with Forever Reds - will go directly towards the work of LFC Foundation and Forever Reds.
Funds raised will support LFC Foundation's employability programmes, which help people across the community to find work, gain qualifications and develop new skills through mentoring and training.
The game will also contribute to the Foundation's long-term strategy and its ambition to support 500,000 people a season by 2030.
You can help support the work of LFC Foundation by purchasing a ticket, with details below, or making a direct donation here.
The final remaining tickets are still available, priced at £29.50 for adults, £19.50 for concessions and £9.50 for juniors. Buy online here.
