Kirby arrived at Anfield Sports and Community Centre to surprise Nasrin, a standout participant from the programme, alongside her fellow participants.

After learning about her story, Kirby spent time talking to Nasrin to find out more about her journey with the LFC Foundation, speaking openly about breaking down barriers throughout her life and the confidence she has built through being a part of the programme.

Kirby then spent time with Nasrin and the wider group, taking part in a football session and providing words of encouragement and inspiration.

On meeting Nasrin, Faye said: “Nasrin is a great example of what the LFC Foundation does in breaking down barriers and creating life-changing opportunities and it was fantastic to meet her and the girls and learn more about the challenges they have faced to get to where they are now.”

Before joining Pathway to Works, Nasrin trained alone, unable to find a team or community to play with. That isolation has now been replaced with leadership and belonging through the Pathway To Works programme, one of the LFC Foundation’s key employability programmes.

A founding member and captain of the programme’s first all-female employability cohort, delivered in partnership with the City of Liverpool College, Nasrin has become a role model for her peers. Her dedication to teamwork, communication and resilience has stood out in every session — qualities that Kirby was quick to recognise during her visit.

Nasrin said: “One of my biggest hobbies has always been sport, especially football — it's something I've loved from a young age,” she explained. “Growing up, I experienced social inequalities, especially around access to opportunities for girls in sport. I could only watch sports on TV.

“Through the programme, I developed my football skills, but more importantly, my confidence. I learned how to believe in myself, communicate better, and push myself out of my comfort zone.

Nasrin’s journey reflects the wider mission of the LFC Foundation: breaking down barriers, dismantling stereotypes and tackling social inequalities in our communities. As a Muslim woman thriving in football and leadership, she continues to challenge perceptions and inspire others to follow in her footsteps.

Using sport as a foundation, Pathway to Works blends practical activities with career-focused workshops, helping participants develop key employability skills while building confidence and exploring future pathways.

The programme is supported by funding from the Premier League Charitable Fund, backed by the Premier League and the Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Fund. This support enables the programme to tackle inequality, build partnerships and expand its reach — including its growing collaboration with the City of Liverpool College, now extending into Health and Social Care pathways.

This weekend’s Legends game is helping to support programmes just like this one with a large portion of the money raised going towards the LFC Foundation’s employability programmes.
