Amber Whiteley has challenged the Liverpool FC Women squad to build momentum and go on a winning run after last Sunday's superb 3-0 win over London Bees.

Becky Jane netted the opener, which was her first goal in a red shirt, after being set up by Ashley Hodson.

Whiteley then made an inspired triple substitution with Rachel Furness, Amy Rodgers and Melissa Lawley helping the Reds claim the three points.

Lawley fed a lovely pass that allowed Ceri Holland to run through and score on her home debut and Furness then teed up Rodgers to make it 3-0.

LFC Women are back in action on Sunday afternoon when they face a trip to Crystal Palace in the FA Women’s Championship, with kick-off set for 2pm GMT.

Ahead of the game, Whiteley was keen to highlight the hard work that has been going on in training, which paid off handsomely with the return to winning ways last Sunday.

On getting back to winning ways last weekend against London Bees…

A really good result. I thought we started the game so brightly, scored a really good team goal and could have gone in maybe 4-0 up at half-time. That’s something that we’ve got to get better at – killing games off when we are on top. There was a 20-minute spell in the second half when the London Bees had the better of us. They had a good chance from a corner and then Sophie Quirk hit the bar. I then made the three changes and I thought all three players impacted the game really well and it took the pressure off, getting that second goal. So it was a really good team performance.

On getting her first win as interim manager…

It was really pleasing. Everyone was really happy with the result, which was the result of the hard work that the players and the staff have been putting in since back in January, eight or nine weeks ago now. It was great to get the result and see all that hard work rewarded.

On the impact of Lawley, Furness and Rodgers from the bench causing her another selection dilemma for the weekend…

When I spoke to them on the Thursday, all three players were naturally disappointed not to be starting. All three were bright in training on the Friday, trained really well and we then saw the great impact they had when they came on, Amy in particular scored a great goal. It’s not by chance that, though, as in training Amy was doing exactly the same thing. You can’t ask any more than that and I’ve another selection headache again for Sunday, but that’s exactly the sort of problem we want to have.

On Jane playing further forward against London Bees and finding the net…

I was really pleased for Becky to get her first goal for the club. Becky has got great pace, really good feet and she is a threat in the attacking half. She has got really good composure, really good, fine reactions and that’s what we saw from her last Sunday. She was great as well out of possession. We had a really strong right side with Becky and Razza Roberts.

On the impact of young Scouser Missy Bo Kearns, who has started the last three games under Whiteley…

Missy Bo has been excellent in training and has been really consistent in the games. She had a 10-minute spell playing out wide in a friendly we had recently and she was getting called Bo Salah, our Scouse queen! Bo has been excellent for us, she is Liverpool through and through and you can see it means everything to her to put that red shirt on every week and she gives absolutely everything when she plays. She’s great.

On the impact of new signing Holland, who has netted two goals in successive games…

Ceri has been excellent and I think we’ve just scratched the surface really. She is still a little bit inconsistent in terms of her own possession, but I think that’s because she has been playing in a more defensive role in the USA in Kansas. She’s just getting used to being more attacking for us as a No.10, but she makes some great runs and causes real problems in the final third. She can finish with both feet and there’s so much more to come from Ceri but it was great to have her on the scoresheet again.

On the challenge posed by Crystal Palace…

A difficult task on Sunday. Crystal Palace are a threat on the counter-attack, they’ve got good pace in their frontline and they will punish us if we give them the opportunities. So, we’ve got to be prepared for that and it’s important that when we do get the opportunities in front of goal that we take them, because given the chance they could take it.
