Liverpool have reportedly had a breakthrough in contract talks with Georginio Wijnaldum and now expect the midfielder to commit his future to the club.

Wijnaldum's current deal is due to expire next summer and there were suggestions the 29-year-old could see out the contract before leaving on a free transfer.

The Guardian report Liverpool have held "positive talks" with Wijnaldum over an extension, which would keep him at the club until either 2024 or 2025.
