Liverpool target Kai Havertz to discuss transfer
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz has admitted he'll speak to Germany coach Joachim Low about a move away from the club.
The 20-year-old has been a regular for Leverkusen since he was 17 but last season was a breakthrough campaign for the midfielder as he bagged 20 goals in 42 appearances.
Havertz already has six Germany caps to his name and scored his maiden goal for his country in their 2-2 draw with Argentina earlier this week.
Such form has naturally seen him linked with a move to the Premier League and compatriot Jurgen Klopp is believed to be a huge fan of the midfielder.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to strengthen his midfield following the departures of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera.
Solskjaer’s been given the green light to push ahead with a move for Christian Eriksen but Real Madrid are favourites to sign the midfielder.
Havertz would appear a more likely acquisition and the midfielder admits he will speak to Low about a move.
‘I listen to many people but in the end it will be my decision,’ said Havertz.
‘I will embrace any advice Low will give me because he has a lot experience – it wouldn’t be smart to not listen to him.’
However, it sounds likely that Low would advise the midfielder to stay at Leverkusen.
Low revealed in a recent interview that he felt the club was providing the best base for Havertz to continue his progression
‘I’ll talk to him on occasion, but not now and not this year. He’s supposed to be playing in Leverkusen, where he plays regularly, that’s the biggest advantage for a young player like that,’ said Low.
