Liverpool are on the verge of completing the signing of PEC Zwolle centre-back Sepp van den Berg, according to reports.

The 17-year-old had attracted interest from several clubs in Europe including Bayern Munich, Ajax and PSV, while Sampdoria had a €2.5 million (£2.25m) offer rejected in January.

But according to the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool have won the race to sign Van den Berg after convincing the centre-back that Anfield is his best destination.

The report claims that the Dutch teenager is due to undergo a medical on Wednesday ahead of signing his contract.

Van den Berg will begin his time at Liverpool in their academy side with the aim to progress to the first team. The 17-year-old made 15 appearances in the Eredivisie this season and helped Jaap Stam’s side avoid relegation.
