Matthijs de Ligt will choose between five offers on the table and will make his decision this week, per reports in Spain.

The Ajax captain is the most sought-after player in the world right now after a brilliant standout year for the Dutch champions.

After guiding his side to a Champions League semi-final and a first Eredivisie title in five years, De Ligt has reportedly been the subject of multiple big-money transfer offers already this summer.

Manchester United and Barcelona were believed to be the two frontrunners for the 19-year-old’s signature, but according to AS Sport, they will face stiff competition.

The publication claims that Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Juventus are all keen on securing the teenager’s services.

It was originally believed that United had edged in front of Barca with regards to financial offers, because they were willing to offer the player €5million (£4.43m) per year more than the Catalan club in wages.

But now, they could be forced into another bidding war with the French and Italian champions, both of whom are likely to be able to match their financial capabilities.

On Sport’s front page on Wednesday, the newspaper claims De Ligt will make his decision over the course of the next week.

Liverpool will be hoping that De Ligt’s international teammates Virgil van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum can help to persuade the youngster to move to Anfield, as they are currently together on international duty.

According to German publication Bild, the European champions are keen to add De Ligt to play alongside Van Dijk at Anfield, with Jürgen Klopp reportedly asking the club to sign him.
