Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez has poured cold water of rumours that he could be set for a move to Liverpool.

Gomez has had an eye-catching season in La Liga with Celta, notching up 13 goals and five assists across the campaign, and Liverpool are considering a bid for the 22-year-old striker.

Jurgen Klopp is on the hunt for attacking reinforcements this summer and Gomez is reportedly high up on the Reds’ wishlist of targets.

The likes of West Ham and Barcelona have also been linked with the Uruguay international.

However, Gomez has brushed off the speculation, insisting that he’s ‘very comfortable’ in Spain with Celta.

Asked about his future, Gomez told Marca: "There are many comments through social networks, what if I sign for Barcelona, if I go to Liverpool… ‘I am very calm and in Vigo I feel very comfortable."

Gomez has a £42million release clause in his contract at Celta which could put off potential suitors in the summer transfer window.

Reports in March claimed that ex-Liverpool ace Luis Suarez was so convinced by Gomez’s potential that he had personally recommended the attacker to the club.

Suarez told former colleagues at Anfield that his fellow Uruguayan is ‘the real deal’.
