Liverpool have enquired about 18-year-old midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to Brescia owner Massimo Cellino.

Tonali is one of Italy’s brightest prospects and is established as a starter for Brescia in Serie B.

The teenager has even been likened to Italy legend Andrea Pirlo for his hair and playing style. Cellino claims a host of clubs are trying to lure Tonali away from Brescia, and that Liverpool are one of those sides.

He told Il Corriere dello Sport: "Roma have made a request for Tonali, I’ve had many meetings with (Roma chief Mauro) Baldissoni but I want to retain the player for long time.

"As much time as possible. He’s just 18 and and I’ve been contacted by Liverpool too." Liverpool do not have a single Italian in their senior team, but have made a success of raiding Italy before.

Tonali is under contract at Brescia until 2021, and Cellino seemed to close the door on any move in the near future.

Liverpool may be searching for stars for the future, but the Reds are unlikely to make any new additions in the January transfer window.
