Xherdan Shaqiri is set to undergo a medical ahead of completing his £13.5million transfer to Liverpool.

The Reds have a deal in place with Stoke City after triggering his release clause and barring any late hitches the Swiss winger will become Jurgen Klopp's third signing of the summer.

Shaqiri has had offers from across Europe following Stoke's relegation to the Championship but once Liverpool firmed up their interest his heart was set on moving to Anfield.

The 26-year-old, whose involvement in the World Cup was ended at the last 16 stage by Sweden last week, is likely to make his Reds debut during the pre-season tour of America later this month.

Jurgen Klopp believes securing the services of such an experienced attacker will help add real depth to the squad.

Liverpool have been looking to increase their cover in wide areas for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Dead ball specialist Shaqiri fits the bill at a bargain price.

The Reds boss has long since admired Shaqiri having come up against him in the Bundesliga.

He won back-to-back league and German Cup doubles with Bayern Munich and was part of their squad which beat Klopp's Borussia Dortmund in the 2013 Champions League final.

Since joining Stoke in 2015, Shaqiri has scored 15 Premier League goals in 84 appearances.
