Liverpool are closing in on a £70million deal for Lyon forward Nabil Fekir and hope to strike an agreement with his agent, who is due in Merseyside for talks today.

Jurgen Klopp has identified the Frenchman as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho and the German has money to spend after Barcelona paid £120m for the Brazilian’s services in January.

Fekir, 24, is keen on a move to the Premier League and wants his future sorted before the World Cup starts in just under two weeks.

The attacker has done little to dampen speculation that he is on his way to Anfield and admitted last week that he was open to joining the Reds.

Liverpool have already signed Fabinho in a £44m deal from Monaco and Canal + claim that Fekir’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, will be in the north-west today to iron out the final details of a deal.

Should negotiations progress as expected, Liverpool hope to conduct Fekir’s medical later this week before letting him join back up with the France squad.

Fekir is expected to cost around £70m, making him the club’s second biggest ever arrival behind Virgil van Dijk.

France beat Italy 2-1 on Friday night to continue their World Cup preparations after a 2-0 victory against Republic of Ireland earlier in the week.

Fekir has featured in both matches.
