Liverpool could sign Suso from AC Milan as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.

Liverpool lost Coutinho to Barcelona on Saturday with the Brazil international moving to the Nou Camp in a huge £142million deal.

The Reds have been linked with Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez as a replacement, while Monaco’s Thomas Lemar is another name being backed to make the move to Merseyside.

However, the Liverpool Echo say the Reds may look at re-signing Suso from AC Milan instead.

The 24-year-old signed under former boss Brendan Rodgers back in 2012 but struggled to make an impression at Anfield.

Suso managed just 21 appearances for Liverpool before signing for Milan in 2014 after a short loan spell in Spain with Algeria.

The Spaniard has since rebuilt his career at the San Siro, even being capped by the national team last year.

And the Liverpool Echo say he could sensationally return to Liverpool as Coutinho’s replacement.

It is said he always had the potential to be an Anfield hit but could never quite manage it.

Coutinho actually forced him out, with the player’s arrival in January 2013 pushing him down Rodgers’ pecking order.

Liverpool will, however, have to pay the playmaker’s £45million release clause to bring him back.

The deal may appeal to the Reds as it would allow them to spend the rest of the money on a new striker.

Serie A giants Inter Milan have emerged as surprising suitors.
