Manchester United and Liverpool have both contacted Jose Gimenez’s representatives about a summer move to the Premier League, according to reports in Spain.

Gimenez is considered one of the most promising centre-backs in La Liga, but has fallen out of favour with Diego Simeone this season.

Atletico Madrid are ready to listen to offers for Gimenez and several clubs are lining up to take the defender off their hands.

Liverpool and United have been in touch with Gimenez’s people to assure them they are interested in his services.

Gimenez has a release clause of £38 million and wants to move to England, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Liverpool are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements with centre-back a constant problem position for the side.

Jose Mourinho is rebuilding his United team and is set to add further star power to his defensive ranks in the summer.

Gimenez is entering the final year of his contract meaning Liverpool and United could snap the defender up for a knockdown price.

Atletico will not want to lose the 22-year-old on a free transfer next summer.

Gimenez has made just 19 appearances in all competitions in a season where he has either sat on the bench or been in the treatment room.
