Liverpool are on red alert after the future of Gabriel Barbosa was cast into further doubt.

Inter boss Stefano Pioli has refused to confirm whether Gabriel, commonly known as Gabigol, will remain at the San Siro past January.

The Brazilian striker made onto his third Serie A appearance of the season when he came off the bench for the final four minutes of Wednesday's 3-0 win over Lazio.

Inter spent nearly €30million to secure Gabriel's services from Santos in August.

But he is yet to start a competitive match and has been linked with a January move away - with Liverpool among the teams circling.

Pioli told Mediaset Premium: "I am happy at the enthusiasm for Gabigol, but I'd like to see him make some moves that are more useful and not just spectacular for the sake of being spectacular.

"Will he remain? We are evaluating the situation. Our first objective in January is to whittle down the squad, because we want players who are happy to be at a big club like Inter.

"We are Inter, proud to be a big team and will go forward only with those who share that view."
