Mats Hummels has put Liverpool and Manchester United on alert by admitting his future is uncertain.

United tried to sign the 27-year-old German in 2014 and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp knows Hummels well, after coaching him during his time in charge of the Bundesliga giants.

Dortmund experienced a poor 2014-15 season, although a late recovery did see them finish seventh and reach the German Cup final.

But it was well below what's expected at the Westfalenstadion and Hummels was captain throughout a difficult campaign, which saw them slip into the relegation zone in the early part of season.

Dortmund are much better off than they were a year ago, now sitting second in the Bundesliga table, eight points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

But Hummels has stalled on signing a new deal with Dortmund and he will be out of contract at the end of next season.

"There have not been any talks in any direction," said Hummels. "Everything's still very quiet. I am relaxed about this issue because I don't see that I am pushed for time."
