Liverpool are plotting a £13million bid to sign Napoli ace Dries Mertens, according to reports.

The 28-year-old winger has been in impressive form for the Italian side scoring six goals in his last 15 appearances.

Mertens' performances have not gone unnoticed with Napoli opening up talks over a contract extension - with his current deal set to expire in 2018.

However, according to Italian website CalcioMercato, the Belgian international is reportedly stalling on signing a new contract because he is not interested in staying in Italy.

This has put Liverpool on alert and Spanish news outlet Fichajes add that the Reds are readying an offer to sign the in-form winger.

If Jurgen Klopp decides to go after the forward then it could cost the Reds upwards of £13m - as Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is reluctant to sell the player.

Mertens is also reportedly attracting interest from Roberto Mancini's Inter Milan.
