Liverpool are hopeful Jurgen Klopp will prove a trump card as they attempt to convince Mauro Icardi to move to Anfield, according to reports.

Spanish outlet Fichajes claim that the Reds are desperate to sign the Argentine, but Arsenal are expected to make a £32million bid for Icardi in January.

Despite the Gunners interest, Liverpool believe Klopp could prove the difference as they go toe-to-toe with Arsene Wenger's side for the striker.

The 22-year-old was handed the captain’s armband with Inter at the start of the season but has struggled to find his best form.

He has only found the net four times in 12 games so far this term, but the Serie A giants are keen to hold on to him.

He was however dropped by Roberto Mancini for Inter's 1-0 win over Genoa on Saturday with hiss manager insisting the team comes before the captain.

Mancini told Sky Sport Italia: "I am the coach of Inter, not of Icardi and Jovetic. We have many excellent forwards and they all deserve playing time.”
