Liverpool will reportedly go head-to-head with Real Madrid to re-sign Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso this summer.

The Spanish midfielder played for both sides before he signed for Pep Guardiola’s side in 2014.

The 34-year-old’s contract with the Bundesliga giants expires at the end of this season and Klopp is said to be interested in bringing a player of Alonso’s experience back to guide his young stars at Anfield.

Though Alonso’s nearing the end of his career, he’s still a vital part of Bayern’s side and he’s kept a 91 per cent passing accuracy throughout his 12 appearances for the German side this season.

And, with the midfielder available to sign a pre-contract with clubs next month, talkSPORT say Liverpool will battle Rafael Benitez’s Madrid to re-sign the Spaniard.
