Diogo Jota will aim to achieve a personal goalscoring best when Liverpool travel to West Bromwich Albion today.

The forward’s equalising effort in the midweek 4-2 victory at Manchester United was his ninth Premier League strike of the season, matching his previous highest total in a campaign – with Wolverhampton Wanderers two years ago.

A goal at The Hawthorns, therefore, would see Jota break his current record in the top flight, as the Reds seek three more points in the race for Champions League qualification.

The Reds are unbeaten in their last 11 league meetings with West Brom (four wins, seven draws) since a 2-0 defeat at Anfield in February 2013.

Roberto Firmino provided the only goal when they last clinched victory at this ground, in April 2017.

Liverpool have scored more goals in Premier League fixtures at The Hawthorns (23) than they have in home clashes with the Baggies (21), in one game fewer.

Only two Reds players have ever netted a hat-trick at West Brom: Michael Owen scored four times in April 2003, while John Wark claimed a treble in March 1985.

Jürgen Klopp’s side have lost only one of their last 10 games in all competitions (at Real Madrid) and are unbeaten in the last seven in the league – the longest current run of any top-flight team.

Thursday’s win at Old Trafford was the fifth time this season the Reds have won in the Premier League after conceding the first goal.

This match falls on the 20th anniversary of Liverpool’s 5-4 victory – secured through a Golden Goal – over Alaves in the 2001 UEFA Cup final in Dortmund.

Today’s encounter will be the 32nd of Sam Allardyce’s managerial career against the Reds, with his eighth different club.
