Joe Gomez continues to make encouraging progress with his recovery from a knee injury but remains 'far away from being back', according to Jürgen Klopp.

The centre-half has been sidelined for Liverpool since November after requiring surgery on the issue he suffered when away on international duty with England.

While Klopp will be 'surprised' if Gomez does manage to return to action in 2020-21, he did provide a positive update on the No.12.

The Reds boss told reporters: "Joe Gomez is actually in a pretty good place, but far away from being back.

"He walks around, looks completely normal, is not yet out on the pitch and running or even out of the gym. It's just a really tough injury as well.

"Will he be available this season? When does the season end? May? It will be close at least, I would say.

"I don't expect, so I would be positively surprised if he would be back this season, to be honest."
