Herbie Kane is relishing the prospect of making his first Liverpool start in unique circumstances on Tuesday night.

The U23s midfielder is set to play in the Reds’ Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa alongside many of his Academy teammates and under the management of regular boss Neil Critchley.

That is due to the fact Jürgen Klopp and his senior squad are in Qatar for the FIFA Club World Cup this week - and Kane is eager to make the most of the opportunity at Villa Park.

“It should be good. Obviously it’s going to be a tough game, but a great occasion for us lads to go out and play in such a big game. I’m looking forward to it,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Obviously it’s different to most debuts people have, but I think people can go into the game with confidence knowing the players around them, and playing and training every day of the week with them.

“We’ve been playing with each other for ages now so we have that connection with each other and we know each other’s strengths.

“We’re going to go out there and try to play how we always do. I don’t think we’ve got anything to lose, really, so we’re just going to go for it.”
