Jordan Henderson stands on the brink of another Liverpool landmark ahead of Tuesday's Champions League tie with Salzburg.

The captain, who made his 250th Premier League appearance for the Reds earlier this season, is one game shy of playing 50 times in Europe for the club.

Should Henderson feature in Austria, he would become the 21st man to reach a half-century of Liverpool appearances in European competition.

Jürgen Klopp’s side will progress to the last 16 with a win or draw, or if they lose and Napoli are also defeated by Genk. A 5-4 reverse would also be sufficient for qualification as the Reds would top Salzburg on goal difference in their head-to-head record.

This is the third consecutive season that Liverpool have required a positive result on matchday six to advance to the knockout rounds. They won both of the previous two, at home to Napoli and Spartak Moscow respectively.

Salzburg are the fourth Austrian club Liverpool have played against. In their seven previous meetings with sides from the country, the Reds have won five, drawn one and lost one.

Mohamed Salah is one Champions League goal short of becoming only the second Liverpool player to net 20 times in Europe’s premier club competition, after Steven Gerrard (who scored 30).

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored three goals in his last three Champions League appearances.

Sadio Mane, formerly of Salzburg, has scored 30 goals for Liverpool so far in 2019. The forward is one of only 11 Reds players to achieve that feat in a calendar year.
