Jordan Henderson is confident Liverpool will reach the last 16 of the Champions League by getting the result they require against Salzburg.

Wednesday’s 1-1 draw with Napoli at Anfield, earned by Dejan Lovren’s equaliser midway through the second half following Dries Mertens’ opener, means the Reds need to avoid defeat in Austria on matchday six to be certain of advancing from Group E.

Victory over Carlo Ancelotti’s team would have secured progression with a game to spare, but Henderson believes the European champions can accomplish their goal in a fortnight’s time.

“We would have liked to have won tonight to finish the job off, but Napoli are a good side and made it difficult and we could only get a point,” the captain told BT Sport.

“We’re still in a decent position, but there’s one game left and we need to go and get a decent result there.”

Liverpool spent the majority of Wednesday’s clash on the front foot, but were unable to find a winner following Lovren’s 65th-minute equaliser as Napoli stood firm.

Henderson continued: “They’re a good team with good players so we knew it would be difficult. There were times where obviously we could do better but there were times where we played some good stuff.

“In the second half we were just searching for the second one, we couldn’t manage to get it but we keep going. Like I say, we’re still in a healthy position but we need to get a result away now.

“We’ll stay positive. We’ve still got a job to do away but we’re confident we can do that.”
