Anfield will host its 100th European Cup match when Liverpool take on Austrian champions Salzburg on Wednesday night.

The Reds have won 70 of the previous 99 games staged at the iconic stadium, with 17 draws and 12 losses.

Salzburg will become the 76th different club Liverpool have faced in the Champions League and its previous guises when the Group E opponents meet for the first time.

Salzburg will be the fourth team from Austria to face Liverpool, following Austria Vienna, Swarovski Tirol and AK Graz.

The Reds defeated Austria Vienna in the quarter-final of the European Cup in 1985, winning 4-1 at Anfield for a 5-2 aggregate victory.

They beat Swarovski Tirol 6-0 on aggregate in the 1991-92 UEFA Cup, recording a 4-0 home win with Dean Saunders netting a hat-trick.

Liverpool beat AK Graz 2-0 in Austria in the first game of the Rafael Benitez era but lost 1-0 at Anfield in the return leg.

Georginio Wijnaldum could play the 150th game of his Liverpool career.

Roberto Firmino celebrates his 28th birthday today. He shares his birthday with Alisson Becker, who is a year younger.

Should Firmino score, he will be the first Liverpool player to find the net on his birthday since Daniel Sturridge, who scored the only goal of the game against Manchester United at Anfield in September 2013.

Mohamed Salah has scored 10 goals in 12 Champions League appearances at Anfield. Only Steven Gerrard (18 in 46 games) has scored more for the Reds on home turf in the competition. Firmino has eight in 12.

Sadio Mane scored 45 goals in 87 games for Salzburg from 2012-14, while Naby Keita netted 20 times in 81 games for the Austrian club from 2014-16.

Liverpool lost this season's Champions League opener at Napoli but have never lost their first two matches of any European campaign.

Salzburg have lost on both previous visits to England - against Blackburn Rovers in 2006-07 and Manchester City in 2010-11 - conceding five times without scoring.

The current Salzburg side have played 12 games this season in league and cup, scoring 55 goals and averaging more than 4.5 goals per game.
