Liverpool v Wolverhampton Wanderers: Live matchday blog

Liverpool wrapped up their 2018-19 Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, thanks to a Sadio Mane brace. Ultimately, it was not to be as Manchester City clinched the title; however, the Reds ended the campaign with a 97-point haul having suffered just one loss all season.

Liverpool 2-0 Wolves: Jürgen Klopp's reaction

Read a transcript of the boss' post-match press conference here>>

Klopp: "This club is in the best moment for a long, long time and it will not end because one team has a point more."

Klopp: "21 clean sheets is quite impressive, well deserved [for Alisson]."

Klopp: “No, I am not worried or whatever. That was the season we played and next season we will play a different season. As long as City are around with the quality they have and the financial power, it’s not that any other team will pass them easily. We have to be very, very close perfection to win the Premier League. We made extraordinary steps and I expect more to come.”

Klopp: “We can decide how we deal with it, which information we take out of it. Nobody else. If we are ready to take the next step, we will take the next step. That’s the plan from tomorrow onwards.”

Klopp: “Everyone knows we will go again, 100 per cent, but in this moment, when you really want something, you feel the disappointment.”

Klopp: “Our season was good, an incredible season, and unbelievable season. Really exceptional.”

Klopp: “Mixed [emotions]. First of all, I have to say congratulations to Manchester City. They’ve played an incredible season; we did as well, but they won it, so congratulations to Pep and all of Manchester City.”

The entire Liverpool squad embarked on their traditional post-match lap of appreciation following the final whistle to show their thanks to supporters for the backing they have been given this season.

Mohamed Salah's young daughter has ran onto the pitch and rolled a ball into the goal, resulting in loud cheers from everyone inside Anfield.

Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are presented with the Premier League Golden Boot after scoring 22 goals this campaign, along with Arsenal's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Alisson Becker is presented with the Premier League Golden Gloves award after tallying the most clean sheets in the division in 2018-19.

And here is how the table finishes at the top, with Liverpool finishing just one point behind league winners Manchester City following an incredible campaign.

Here's how the afternoon unfolded, as told by Opta stats...

Full Time

Liverpool 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

It's all over at Anfield as Liverpool wrap up their 2018-19 Premier League campaign with a home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A goal in each half from Sadio Mane was enough to see the Reds conclude their season by reaching 97 points and suffering just one loss all campaign.

However, Manchester City's 4-1 win at Brighton & Hove Albion means they take the title.

Jürgen Klopp's side do, however, have a Champions League final to look forward to in just under three weeks' time.

90

An additional two minutes to be played at the end of the game.

88

Substitution

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is on for Gini Wijnaldum for the final moments.

85

Stat

Trent Alexander-Arnold has provided 12 assists in the Premier League in 2018-19: the most by a defender in a single campaign in the competition.

84

Substitution

Joe Gomez is on for Andy Robertson.

83

Off the bar!

Van Dijk loops a header goalwards from a deep delivery from Alexander-Arnold. It hangs in the air for a while before landing against the bar and bouncing away.

81

Goal

GOAL! SADIO MANE!

Our No.10 is on target again - and it's an Alexander-Arnold assist again.

The full-back hoists a ball in from the right and Mane is on hand to glance it beyond Patricio with his head.

81

Salah has a snap-shot blocked on the edge of the area by Bennett.

80

Substitution

Traore comes on for Doherty for the visitors.

75

Manchester City now lead 4-1 at Brighton.

74

Robertson stands up a ball towards the back post, where Wijnaldum arrives but can only hoist over the bar.

74

Salah's shot inside the area is blocked.

73

Chance

Jota heads goalwards from close range - but it's straight at Alisson.

69

Chance

Jota gets in behind, but his close-range attempt is thwarted by Alisson's sprawling save.

65

Chance

Decent opportunity for Wolves, but Jimenez - thankfully - cannot connect properly from eight yards out after another low ball from Doherty.

65

Manchester City have extended their lead at Brighton to 3-1.

63

Substitution

Origi makes way for Milner at Anfield.

63

Chance

Much better from the Reds, but Origi's shot on the spin following a counter-attack takes a deflection and goes over the bar.

61

Milner is being readied to come on for the Reds.

60

Jimenez arrows an effort just over the near post.

58

Robertson has a low ball into the box hacked away by Coady.

55

Now Alexander-Arnold has to block an effort from Jonny inside the box.

The visitors are looking a threat.

52

Henderson has to cut out Doherty's ball into the area before a Wolves attacker can reach it.

50

Yellow Card

Jota now booked for a foul on Fabinho.

49

Yellow Card

Bennett goes into the book for a poor challenge on Mane.

48

Alexander-Arnold whips a free-kick around a Wolves wall and into the side netting from a tight angle.

Kick-Off

Back under way...

Wolves re-start the game at Anfield.

Here's how the table looks at the halfway stage of the final day. Man City's 2-1 lead at Brighton means they will be crowned champions as it stands.

The tale of the first-half tape...

Half Time

Liverpool 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Sadio Mane's goal after 17 minutes is the difference between the teams at the break, but the visitors have given the Reds plenty to think about here at Anfield.

45

One additional minute to be played at the end of the first half.

44

Chance

Wolves hit Liverpool on the break once more and Doherty's side-footer from just inside the area skims the crossbar and goes behind.

38

Manchester City have taken the lead at Brighton, where the scoreline is 2-1 in their favour now.

37

Wolves are really beginning to threaten here and Jimenez's low cross evades everyone in the middle.

34

Salah pounces on a half-cleared corner and whacks a volley over the crossbar from the edge of the box

28

And Manchester City have immidiately equalised on the south coast, so it's 1-1 down there now.

27

Anfield erupts twice as news comes through of a goal for Brighton against Manchester City at the Amex Stadium - firstly incorrectly and, secondly, correctly.

We willl, of course, keep you posted.

25

Robertson cracks one goalwards from the corner of the area; Patricio beats it to safety for the visitors.

23

Stat

Sadio Mane (21 goals) is the first player to score more than 20 goals in a single Premier League campaign without any coming from the penalty spot since Luis Suarez (31) and Daniel Sturridge (21) did so, also for the Reds, back in 2013-14.

22

Salah almost - almost - latches onto Coady's header back towards Rui Patricio, but the goalkeeper just manages to get there first.

17

Goal

GOAL! SADIO MANE!

That's the start Liverpool wanted as Mane side-foots them into the lead.

It comes a via lovely exchange from Henderson and Alexander-Arnold down the right, which results in the latter crossing low for our No.10 to slot in at the back post.

11

'We're going to Madrid...' is booming out from the Kop now.

7

A lively start from Liverpool inside a very lively Anfield. The atmosphere is fantastic.

4

Origi registers the game's first shot, scooping a volley goalwards on the turn, but it's a comfortable take for Rui Patricio.

And we're off...

On this day...

If you're of a certain generation, this'll make you feel old... sorry.

18 years ago today, Liverpool came from 1-0 down to beat Arsenal 2-1 in the FA Cup final in Cardiff, thanks to two late, late Michael Owen goals.

It was the second of three trophies the Reds collected that incredible season, with a dramatic UEFA Cup success following days later over Alaves in Dortmund, adding to the already-secured League Cup.

Klopp: Another big moment would be cool

A remarkable week of football concludes this afternoon and Klopp retains hope there could be more memorable scenes on the Premier League final day.

But, he insists, Liverpool can only concentrate on claiming three points against Wolves.

"It was a week of, I'm not sure miracles, but of big football moments," he said at his pre-match press conference.

"From our point of view, there could be a big football moment for us as well on the weekend. It would be nice. The week is not over yet, Sunday counts to this week not for next week. So, of course we go for that.

"But nothing changed really, we knew it before. I think most of the people expected me to sit here today and say, OK, after not being in the Champions League final it's pretty difficult to become champions. Now we are in the Champions League final it's still difficult to become champions.

"But the only thing we can do is to win the game."

Pre-match

Golden?

Mohamed Salah goes into the final round of Premier League games as the front-runner for the Golden Boot award he won 12 months ago.

Liverpool's No.11 is two goals clear of his teammate Sadio Mane, Manchester City's Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on 22 for the season so far.

Alisson Becker, meanwhile, is neck and neck with City's Ederson in the race for the Golden Glove. Both Brazilian golakeepers have recorded 20 clean sheets to date in 2018-19.

Origi: It's not finished yet

After three crucial goals in the past two games, Divock Origi is hoping for another dramatic twist at Anfield this afternoon.

"It's going to be exciting and it's going to be an unbelievable experience. We know this!" the striker says in the official matchday programme.

"I think regardless of whatever is happening around us, it's just nice to see us in this position, so let's enjoy this day.

"And we know that when we enjoy things, there are always special things that happen.

"We will reflect on things at the end of the season. But of course we are hoping for the best. It is not finished yet."

A 38th Premier League match of the season, a 38th Liverpoolfc.com matchday blog weather update of the campaign.

It's a bright morning in Anfield with scarcely a cloud ruining the blue sky above the stadium - the temperature is currently 13 degrees and is expected to rise slightly by kick-off.
