Jürgen Klopp shined a light on Georginio Wijnaldum's importance to Liverpool after his commanding midfield display against Arsenal.

The Dutchman was dominant in the centre of the pitch on Saturday, shielding and shifting the ball with near-perfection during the 5-1 victory.

Wijnaldum has made the most appearances of any Reds midfielder so far this term - and Klopp provided insight on why the No.5 is such a reliable figure.

“He’s an outstanding player,” said the manager after Liverpool’s final fixture of 2018.

“He combines a lot of things that you need. On a one-on-one situation, he can keep the body between the opponent and the ball, then pass the ball.

“I don’t know how many positions he’s played. In the double-six he plays really well.

“He can play all three positions in midfield and that’s really nice. All the boys are really versatile, to be honest.

“Hendo came in on Saturday and played the half-space and helped so much with how we defended. He was really lively. But Gini is in a good moment.”
