Trent Alexander-Arnold has cited the Anfield atmosphere as a vital factor behind Liverpool’s fearsome home record.

The Reds go into Sunday’s Merseyside derby against Everton looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League on their own patch to 28 games.

Crystal Palace, back in April 2017, were the most recent visitors to leave Anfield with all three points, while Jürgen Klopp’s side have conceded just once in their last 11 top-flight home fixtures.

And Alexander-Arnold has credited the buoyant mood around the club - which, he believes, is fostered by Jürgen Klopp - as one of the primary reasons for the recent success on the pitch in L4.

The England international told the Liverpool Echo: “It’s been hard for teams to come here over the last year or two and even get a point off us.

“When we walk out here, we feel like nobody is going to come and beat us. We feel really confident when we step out on to the pitch.

“The way the manager has contributed to that has been incredible. The atmosphere at Anfield is the best it has been for years - that really helps and plays a part.

“We saw how much of a difference that made last season, especially in the Champions League games at Anfield. The fans recognise how much they help us and they spur us on to do well for them.”

The 232nd meeting between Liverpool and Everton will involve two of the Premier League’s in-form sides.

The Reds have won 10 and drawn three of their 13 top-flight fixtures so far this term, while the Blues, under the stewardship of new boss Marco Silva, boast five victories in their last seven league outings.

“They are a good side. They are playing well and getting good results under the new manager who brought in some good new signings,” Alexander-Arnold continued.

“He has made them more exciting to watch. They are playing good football and go into it on the back of a good result against Cardiff last weekend.

“They drew away to Chelsea and have ground out results so it will be a real test for us.”
