Liverpool extended their unbeaten Premier League run to 13 games with a 3-0 win over Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino earned the three points and maintained the Reds' excellent form in the top flight.

Here are five talking points from the match…

Klopp's record-breakers

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp joked that he would play 11 defenders against Watford after being informed in the pre-match press conference that his side were one clean sheet away from setting a new defensive club record.

However, as a subscriber to the maxim that defending begins in attack, he actually fielded a team with four forwards - Firmino, Salah, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri - instead.

It worked all the same.

The 'five' in Liverpool's goals against column is the fewest ever conceded by the club after 13 games of a league season.

Defensive diligence

Dejan Lovren and Virgil van Dijk put on a peerless display at Vicarage Road as the centre-back pairing won virtually everything that came their way.

In fact, in the case of Van Dijk, he literally won everything that came his way - coming out on top in all 11 of his duels.

Almost all of those battles came in the second half as Watford abandoned their more cautious approach prior to the break.

In the opening 45 minutes, Lovren had been able to go into each challenge with the home side's attackers at full throttle, safe in the knowledge his defensive partner was on the cover.

The Croatia international won 100 per cent of his duels in the first half, with Van Dijk leading the team in total passes (76) and touches (80) during the same period.

As the game adapted, so did their approach, but their defensive prowess remained constant.

Hornets feel Salah's sting... again

Salah had scored more goals against Watford than any other side heading into this match, so it was no surprise when the Egyptian finally made the breakthrough after 67 minutes at Vicarage Road.

The No.11's left-footed finish from Mane's low cross notched his sixth strike in three outings against the Hornets, which includes a four-goal haul in a 5-0 win at Anfield last season.

Salah is already Liverpool's second-highest scorer against Watford - only Ian Rush (10 goals in 11 appearances) has scored more.

Trent's back with a bang

It has been a good few weeks for Liverpool's England international Alexander-Arnold.

Having hit the net for his country during the recent international break, the full-back carried his goalscoring form into his domestic duties, and in stunning fashion too.

Watch: Trent's fantastic free-kick from every angle

With Liverpool 1-0 up and the game finely balanced, the 20-year-old took control of a 76th-minute free-kick and curled a sublime 25-yard finish past the excellent Ben Foster to give the Reds breathing space.

The Scouser has now scored four goals across all competitions for Liverpool, with two of them coming from free-kicks.

Klopp achieves league landmark

The Liverpool boss toasted a league win for the 300th time in his managerial career when the final whistle was blown at Vicarage Road.

It was the 607th occasion Klopp had taken charge of a team in league action, following his spells with Mainz and Borussia Dortmund in Germany.

And the Reds did him proud despite - as he revealed after the game - having only one session as a full squad to prepare for the encounter.

With Manchester City continuing to set the pace in the Premier League, he'll be eager to make headway on the next century as quickly as possible.
