The strength of the current Liverpool team rivals any Jordan Henderson has ever played in – but now the Reds need to take the 'final step'.

Jürgen Klopp’s side were one game away from an historic achievement last season, finishing runners-up in the Champions League after defeat by Real Madrid in Kiev.

A second successive top-four finish in the Premier League maintained the progress inspired by the manager, meanwhile, and Liverpool have kicked off 2018-19 with four wins in a row.

The challenge now, according to Henderson, is to turn improvement into trophies. But the captain is certain the capability to do so exists in the squad assembled by Klopp.

“Some of the football we’ve been playing over the past year or so, if not longer, is right up there with the best teams I’ve ever been involved in really – if not the best,” he told Sky Sports.

“We’ve had some fantastic players, the likes of Stevie [Gerrard], [Luis] Suarez and [Philippe] Coutinho, people like that – amazing players.

“But I feel, now, as a team everybody is right at it and that obviously comes from the manager. Since the manager came in, I feel we’ve been going in the right direction and now for us it’s about taking that final step and going on to win silverware, because that’s massive for us.”
