Trent Alexander-Arnold has matured throughout a season in which he has proven that he could be a valuable member of England’s World Cup squad, Jürgen Klopp feels.

Liverpool’s No.66 has made 32 appearances so far during the current campaign, predominantly at right-back, successfully making the step from Academy prospect to first-team regular.

Already an international at U21 level, Alexander-Arnold’s form for his club has resulted in him being touted as a potential inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s party for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.

And Klopp believes the 19-year-old would be ready to play in the tournament, should Southgate select him.

“I’m obviously a fan of Trent, that’s why he played pretty often - not because of that, because he performed on a really high level,” the Reds boss said.

“[He has] matured quickly over the last year. Mentally, he was always in a good place, physically he needed to improve [and] he did.

“So I am not Gareth Southgate, but if he needs a good player who can play right full-back and maybe another position as well then I think he would be a good choice.

“But it’s not up to me and I don’t think whatever I say would make it more likely or less likely. If Gareth thinks he needs him then I’m sure he will be ready.”
