Lucas Leiva is expected to drop in on his former Liverpool teammates in Rome ahead of the Champions League semi-final second leg.

The midfielder, now based in the Italian capital with SS Lazio following a transfer from the Reds last summer, recently told Liverpoolfc.com of his hope to watch Wednesday night’s match inside Stadio Olimpico.

But Lucas is likely to catch up with Jürgen Klopp and his squad before they take to the field holding a 5-2 advantage over AS Roma from the first match at Anfield last week.

He will be a welcome guest at the team hotel once they have completed a training session at the Serie A side’s stadium on Tuesday evening.

“I hope he will visit us tonight in the hotel. We are really looking forward to it,” Klopp revealed to Liverpoolfc.com on board the flight from Merseyside.

“‘Contact’ is maybe the wrong word but he is writing and I am writing [to each other]. Whenever I can I see a game of Lazio, or when I see the result or him scoring - what a legend he is. And obviously he plays a fantastic season. It’s cool.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him tonight.”
