En route to winning the competition Liverpool had to overcome Aston Villa in the quarter-final of the League Cup thanks to Danny Murphy's last-gasp winner.

The game was delayed by 80 minutes because of traffic problems meaning supporters arrived at Villa Park late.

Once the action got underway, though, it certainly didn't disappoint.

Darius Vassell put the home side into the lead from the penalty spot only for Murphy to level.

Milan Baros and Steven Gerrard then put the Reds 3-1 up only for Thomas Hitzlsperger to pull one back.

A Stephane Henchoz own goal in the 88th minute meant extra-time looked a certainty, but with time running out Gerrard fed Murphy, who fired a winner to send the travelling Kop into ecstasy.
