We head back to 1994 and a blistering start to the new season from Liverpool at Selhurst Park.

With Roy Evans starting his first full campaign at the helm, hopes were high that the man who had seen it all could propel Liverpool back to where they belong once again.

Jan Molby cooly slotted the Reds into the lead from the penalty spot and, when Steve McManaman made it 2-0 with an early goal of the season contender, Liverpool were flying.

Molby's sublime first-time pass set McManaman racing away from deep inside his own half. The Scouser drove to the edge of the Palace penalty area before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the far corner of the net.

Robbie Fowler made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time before Chris Armstrong pulled one back.

However, a double from Ian Rush and another effort from McManaman set the seal on a brilliant performance.
