Liverpool got off to the perfect start for 2008-09 thanks to a 1-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
An exciting season was to follow, with memorable games against Manchester United and Real Madrid, and this early victory gave the travelling Kop a real belief.
Fernando Torres grabbed the only goal of the game with a superb low finish in the 83rd minute.
